PHS Spotlight Yearbook Edition: Nathalie Torres-Reyes
Nathalie Torres-Reyes is the editor-in-chief of the journalism program, who has found a love for photography while taking the class. While she may not have planned on focusing on photography at first, she eventually liked taking pictures for important moments,
One of Nathalie’s favorite parts of taking pictures is seeing the smiles on people’s faces. Even when some felt shy or embarrassed, they still managed to put on a smile, and that was something she liked to see.
Throughout her journalism class, Nathalie also had the assignment to do spotlight interviews. The most inspiring interview for her was with her coach, who shared great advice that Nathalie found inspiring..
Of course, taking pictures isn’t always easy. One of the biggest challenges Nathalie faced was dealing with bad lighting, especially when the sun didn’t cooperate. Still, she tried her best and learned how to make the best of every situation.
Looking back, Nathalie wishes she had taken this class sooner. It was an experience that allowed her to express herself freely and be herself. Although some assignments were challenging, like the final project, which required her to attend events and work with others, she still found the class to be fun and rewarding.
Over time, Nathalie improved her skills in both photography and communication. She became more confident in asking people for pictures and learned how to make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. One of the most important lessons she took away from the class was not to procrastinate. Now, she believes in tackling tasks as soon as possible, a mindset she hopes to carry forward in all areas of her life.
Even though journalism won’t be her major in college, Nathalie is excited about wanting to take more journalism classes as electives. The class also made her love photography outside of school. Without a professional camera of her own, she started practicing more with her phone and discovered a hidden talent for capturing beautiful shots.
