PHS Staff Spotlight: Mr. Ruiz
This is our first instructor who teaches Folklorico, his name is Mr. Ruiz. He enjoyed this subject during his high school years, so much that Mr. Ruiz really hopes to pass on the enjoyment to his students. He really loves teaching his students the magic of dance known as Folklorico. He is able to see the confidence grow in every single one of his students. He enjoys being here at our high school, Mr. Ruiz feels like small communities are closer and tighter to each other. Mr. Ruiz has been teaching for 10 years, he started assisting at 17 years old and started teaching his first class at 18 years old. Being inside his class and learning all these fun dances is amazing. Mr. Ruiz is someone who is easy to get along with, he has become an important part of your high school. He has been in our district for almost two years. He really changed our community in so many different ways and brought Mexican culture back to our schools.
Here is some advice from Mr. Ruiz, this piece of advice he wishes he would be able to give to his younger self “to continue to do what makes himself happy and to not listen to others opinions”. Don’t worry Mr. Ruiz has no plans on leaving anytime soon he still sees himself teaching the same subject for the next 10 years or even more. The goal of the program is simple. To be able to show his school spirit is by organizing performances, showcasing the students talent, and continuously pushing to provide a positive community environment. The performances are really beautiful and inspiring, I enjoyed every performance that Mr. Ruiz organized. Whenever it’s time for his students to perform it really excites him to be able to see their progress. In his words “not only as performers but as my students.” I really enjoyed learning all the different cultures and designs every single state had on their dresses and their movement. I learned so much about my own culture by being inside this class. He is a really amazing teacher and will be one of my top favorite teachers at this high school.
