PHS Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Serapio

Firstly, I’d like to thank Mrs. Serapio for taking the time out of her day to interview her.

Mrs. Serapio is a world History and AP world History teacher here at Parlier high school, going on 4 years. Wanted to begin teaching to follow in the footsteps of prior great teachers. Originally from Selma, she first began teaching at a middle school in Fresno. When she came across a job listing for Parlier High. An interesting question I asked Mrs. Serapio, “How would you describe teaching here?”, Her response was compelling. She claims it certainly is a challenge, but nonetheless rewarding to watch a students evolvement in her classroom. Which also correlates to what she wanted to accomplish while teaching here.

Mrs. Serapios reason for teaching History sprouted from her love of learning about people, places, and events that have occurred. The way she aids her students in learning is giving out assignments that are consistent and allows her students to have background knowledge when it comes to tests or projects. As for her AP classes, she claims it takes much hard work and research to teach the course. To give a more in depth understanding to her students. She hopes it will help them gain proper work ethic, more accountability, and have them prepared for college courses.

Mrs. Serapio is an incredibly insightful and supporting teacher. Other than wanting to teach history, she expressed to me about wanting to help students excel beyond high school. Personally, Mrs. Serapio has been one of my favorite teachers in high school. She inspired me to push myself to the academic level I didn’t know I could reach.
