PHS Spotlight: Mr. Ruiz

Some of you may have seen or had Mr. Ruiz as a teacher at Parlier High. He is Parlier High School’s beloved Spanish teacher. Some may not know that Mr. Ruiz once attended Parlier High School himself. Parlier High School was the first school he came to when he moved from Mexico. He stated, “The best way I could give back was to teach at the school that taught me my first words in English.”

Mr. Ruiz’s passion is teaching. His favorite part about teaching is “Knowing that everyday something good is going to happen everyday in the classroom for the benefit of the students.” He loves to make a personal impact in their lives.

His inspiration to start teaching was to “Have an opportunity to instill the opportunity to succeed academically and in their personal lives.” Most importantly wanted to become a motivation and role model for them.

One goal Mr. Ruiz has for this school year is to be a better educator than last year and make sure that all his students take something positive from his class!

One of Mr. Ruiz’s favorite things about school growing up was being involved in extracurricular activities. “Sports was one of the reasons I stayed in school and to make friends.”

In school Mr. Ruiz’s favorite subject to learn was Philosophy! “Philosophy was my favorite subject because I like to reflect on life in general and make me find more meaning in the life that surrounds me.”

Lastly, one piece of advice Mr. Ruiz likes to give to his students every year is, “Never let the opportunities in front of you get away from you because one of those opportunities can make a difference in your life.”
