PHS Spotlight

Student Spotlight

Cayleb Garza

I chose my friend Cayleb Garza as my student spotlight. Cayleb grew up on Cypress Street in Parlier, California. Growing up he attended S. Ben Benavides Elementary, then Parlier Junior High, and now is a senior student at Parlier High School. In 10 years, he sees himself owning a house, paying bills, and having a good job. I asked him who has been his favorite teacher at PHS. He responded by saying Mr. Hatly because he made history fun and easy to understand, and even once gave everyone $20 on a school trip with about 80–90 students. He also enjoys being part of FFA since it gives him the chance to travel to different cities like Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Monterey Bay. Outside of school, He likes working on cars, eating, and looking for ways to make money. One of his proudest achievements so far is earning a 3.3 GPA last semester. His best advice to someone starting high school is to just be yourself and do what you want to do. Since freshman year, he’s changed by becoming more focused and determined to succeed. Something most people don’t know about him is that he’s blind as a bat. If he could start a new club at school, it would probably be one where students could learn more hands-on skills, like fixing cars or managing money.
