Sergio grew up in Parlier, California, and attended Chavez Elementary and Parlier Junior High before entering Parlier High School. When he first arrived at PHS, he thought it seemed like a cool place but also expected it to be difficult. Looking back, he describes his high school experience in three words: challenging, transformative, and motivating. Over the years, he developed a growing interest in science, finding it more interesting as time went on. One of the biggest influences on his journey has been Mr. Rambonga, his favorite teacher, who has supported him throughout the past three years and consistently offered help whenever needed.
Sergio draws his motivation from both his faith in God and the support of his girlfriend, who inspire him to stay focused and push toward his goals. If he could change one thing about his high school years, it would be taking him to take his freshman year more seriously by paying better attention in class and completing his assignments on time. In the future Sergio hopes to become an electrician and provide for his future family. One piece of advice Sergio would give to other students is simple but powerful: “Don’t give up on your goal because of the challenges life throws at you.”
